Superbowl Game Recap

The best defense in the league might have sent Peyton Manning into retirement with a super end to his career. The Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Levi’s Stadium.

Manning is the first quarterback to win Super Bowls with two franchises. A win for the Indianapolis Colts in 2007 was the other.

The two teams that participated in the Super Bowl, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos, both had a sour memory of the last time they were there. The Broncos were coming off a 43-8 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in 2014, and in 2004 the Panthers lost 32-29 to the New England Patriots.

“Everybody is going to be excited to play in a Super Bowl,” said Manning in an interview with ESPN. “I enjoy the preparation and the work part of it.”

Manning was not the star of Super Bowl 50.  Broncos’ defense, led by Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, was. However, Manning did just enough to complement the defense and win the game.

Manning started the game with an 18-yard completion to Owen Daniels and later threw to Andre Caldwell for 22 yards, while C.J. Anderson had a 13-yard run before Brandon McManus kicked a 34-yard field goal.

Two plays after the field goal, Miller burst through and stripped the ball from Cam Newton of the Panthers. The ball then rolled to the goal line, where Malik Jackson jumped on it for a 10-0 lead.

Newton responded, leading the Panthers to a 73-yard drive to make it 10-7. Jonathan Stewart, running back, dove into the end zone for the touchdown.

The Broncos, led by Manning, went on back-to-back field goal drives to give them a 16-7 lead.

The Panthers drove down the field but were stopped on third down, so Graham Gano of the Panthers kicked a 39-yard field goal to cut the Broncos’ lead down to 16-10.

Just when things were going well for Carolina, Miller stripped the ball from Newton, and T.J. Ward recovered the football at the Carolina four-yard line. The Broncos scored and cracked the game open to 24-10. This ended up being just enough to win the game and crown the Broncos the champion.

Manning finally gets his second Super Bowl ring that he has been waiting for.

After the game, Manning proclaimed to the stadium, “I’m gonna drink a lot of Budweiser tonight. Von is buying.”
