“I started volleyball towards the middle of ninth grade, I think it was around the same time as it was now, September, around six months before the tryouts or what’s it four months before the tryouts. I started playing volleyball because, uh, we used to play in middle school with my friends and I thought that I would be going through my life playing other sports like tennis or basketball but, uh, they didn’t really satisfy or touch my, like, need for competition because I just played those for fun. But then, when I played volleyball at the sand courts at my court, it was like a whole different feeling. Like, when you really get down and dirty, receiving the ball, in the sand, rolling around, like it’s just different.” – Preston Chu
