On October 25th, the Entertainment Corps started competition season at Capistrano Valley High. After countless hours of preparation, they rightfully earned 1st place in their division. Not only were they awarded 1st place in their division, they also earned tournament champion (an award for 1st place out of all divisions and high schools), high auxiliary (1st place in dance and guard) and high percussion (1st in percussion).
The excitement of the first competition is unmatched.
“It’s a good feeling,” senior Charlotte Pham said. “We will all be sitting as a group and it’s really nice because you all hear they score together and everyone’s having a really good time and celebrating.”
The shows usually take a while to come together and it’s really exciting to see all the work come together. The students and members usually start learning and teaching everything in August but the actual show planning process starts in December.
“We meet as a team with all the staff in December because we have to get all the music rights and stuff so we meet and pitch a whole bunch of ideas and we all come with different ideas and we all kinda knead out which ones we like the best,” music director Brad Harris said.
All of the Entertainment Corps works hard and works together to place as they do in competitions. Every section helps each other out including staff and students.
Sophomore Lucas Ranches said, “All the seniors were able to help me out and help me learn the fundamentals of being a drummer and being in the Entertainment Corps, I feel like it’s my duty to help newer people because of the way I was taught.”
Overall, every single person in Entertainment Corps works really hard inside and outside of rehearsals to place as they do and as the season takes off you can see throughout how they place and how it works.
Their next competition is at Irvine High school and it is division championships. You can come support them as they start to end the season.
