The week of Oct. 15-18, planned by ASB spirit commissioner, was the fun spirit week at Woodbridge High that included fun days and activities.
The week was full of fun and included many activities and funches. Lots of time and effort went into planning this fun week, and it paid off.
The Homecoming Spirit week was October 15-18, with the Homecoming Dance on October 19.
Each of the days were given a certain decade and trends or ideas that were popular in that era, and students had fun dressing up.
October 15, Tuesday, this day was dedicated to the 50s with the popular movie, “Teen Beach: Surfers vs. Bikers.” This day allowed students to dress up as surfers with hawaiian patterns and accessories, or bikers with black leather, representing the 50s era.
Next, Wednesday, Oct. 16, continued with the 80s, with Neon Out. Students wore neon clothes and got to feel like they were in the era of 1980.
Thursday, Oct. 17, continued the decades with the 90s, with Jersey tees and Flannel sleeves.
Finally, on Friday, Oct. 18, this day concluded the week with the 2000s, the spirit day of the Y2K Takeover, with clothes and fashion trends that emerged during this time. Students could wear baggy jeans, oversized shirts, or plaid.
In an interview with ASB spirit commissioner, Aarushi Mehta, she stated, “So me along with the activities commissioner Aarushi [Ghildyal], we kind of think out ways in which which will be like easy for the students to dress up as, because we’ve realized that the the themes that are the most popular are the ones that are the easiest to do.”
Each of these days had an inspiration and a meaning behind them of what was significant or historically accurate at that time.
The only way the students are made aware of these days is because of the dedicated ASB and Class Council students. They have workdays that last hours, and they take their time to create posters to advertise these days so they have the best turnout.
Freshman class council student, Emi Saucedo, stated in an interview, “Well all of ASB and Class Council,
we all get together and we help put together spirit days that we think students will be involved in. And then once we finalize it, we post it all around the school.”
“Spirit days is to get all students involved, especially freshmen, since they don’t usually like to get involved, and it’s so everyone’s aware of the big event that’s gonna happen at the end of the spirit week,” Saucedo said.
With the freshmen being new to the school, this is a great way for them to feel part of the school and feel united as one.
Many students find these days fun, enjoy dressing up with friends, and look forward to the big event that is going to happen at the end of the week.
“It’s an excuse to dress up, but for a cause and where everyone can like join together to support something,” freshman Emelia Ruris-Kanegae said.
Students get to be involved with the school and have fun with friends. The Homecoming spirit week was a success and students got to feel part of the school!
Students are looking forward to fun, and exciting spirit weeks in the future!
