In a highly anticipated matchup, our Warriors faced off against University High at the Woodbridge High turf on Oct 14 and gained another win this season. The game kicked off with an electric atmosphere. The Warriors may have had a win under their belt against this time and an overall better record, but the Trojans were not scared to play their hardest on the field.
Early in the first half, sophomore wide receiver Synda Hall made a spectacular play, catching an extra point conversion pass from junior varsity quarter-back Katherine Meloni that put our warriors ahead. This was added to their previous touchdown by Naiomi Tase, bringing them to 7 points.
However, University High quickly responded, demonstrating their resilience with a powerful drive that culminated in a touchdown with an extra point, showcasing their determination to keep pace.
As the game progressed, the intensity escalated, highlighted by key defensive plays from Tase including a crucial interception, and sacks from each of the junior varsity rushers, Lucy Morgan and Emi Saucedo, that shifted the momentum back to Woodbridge High.
The second half saw our lady Warriors dominating the Trojans once again, extending their lead to 14-7 with another touchdown then extra point gained by Makayla Bowden.
As the clock wound down, this domination continued, University High fought back as much as they could, trying to narrow the gap, but a long bomb thrown by Meloni to alternative receiver Morgan in the last minutes of the game got past them.
“… it was one of my best moments in the season,” alternative receiver, Morgan stated.
After the final whistle, junior varsity reflected on the team’s performance, and had mixed emotions about the season ending.
“I’m very sad that it is over, it felt super fast but I know there’s more years to come and I just can’t wait,” junior
varsity quarterback, Meloni said.
Junior varsity got to end their season on a thrilling encounter that not only showcased the skills of the team but also how close they have become as a team since their first game.
“Getting close to this team was easy. Everyone was so easy to get along with and so funny. We got close through our chaotic team bondings and our mistakes at practices. I couldn’t have asked for a better first year of flag football at
Woodbridge,” alternative linebacker Kaia Yang said.
