Three out of the many new clubs that were introduced this year at Woodbridge High are the Athletic Support Club, the Pickleball club, and the Youth Action Team.
Athletic Support Club
Freshman Emi Saucedo, president of the Athletic Support Club, also a member of the Junior Varsity flag football and track team, was inspired to start this club by friends at her games performing worse due to people not being there to watch them.
“The purpose of this club is to support athletes mentally, academically, and physically and like everything they need because sometimes it’s hard to balance it with school and like having fun…,” Saucedo said when asked about the purpose of the Athletic Support Club.
With this club, Saucedo hopes to help all the athletes at Woodbridge High do better in their classes and in the sports/activities that they partake in. Saucedo encourages students to join her club: “…if they’re an athlete…if they’re a performer, or if they’re in nothing at all …they can help others, and they’ll get help academically because there’s gonna
be study times and everything.”
The club meets every month on Monday in room K110. Although the date of the next meeting is unknown, updates on the club are posted on the club’s Instagram page, WHSAthleticsSupportcClub. Those interested can also join the Remind @e43ac3d.
Pickleball Club
Pickleball is a racket/paddle sport in which two to four players use the paddle to hit a hollow plastic ball over a net until
one side is unable to return the ball. The sport is played both indoors and outdoors.
“[I joined this club] because it’s my friend’s club and I wanted to play pickleball with them, [and] we all meet up and play Pickleball games together once a week or once a month,” freshman Emily Haffner member of the Pickleball Club and the Softball team said.
For more information talk to the club’s president, Dakota Chandler.
Youth Action Team
The High School Youth Action Team provides high school students with the opportunity to take part in many various community service projects. The program consists of student representatives from the high schools in Irvine who organize teen activities and represent their peers at different community groups.
The program’s goals include youth leadership, community services, and social-recreational activities. Freshman Trisha Antony is a member of the Youth Action Team, JV girls’ basketball team, and Frosh girls’ soccer team.
She joined YAT because she enjoys volunteering and helping out her community. This will be her third year in YAT. She encourages students to join the club, “It’s a great way to help out and if you’re not all about helping out then it’s a great way to earn some community service hours,” Antony said.
The club meets Bi-Weekly on Thursdays in room J114.
