As technology increasingly plays an important part of our lives, an emerging Brand and Production elective gives students the opportunity to enroll in a class that teaches them technical skills.
This can open a wide variety of new opportunities that students can take with them to future careers or for personal use.
Visual Arts teacher Matt Takeno speaks on the long journey it took to becoming an official elective. In the beginning, there were difficulties determining interest for the elective while also giving students intriguing opportunities that would spark their interests.
There are many featured roles in the brand and production elective, they started on production for sports.
“[Brand and Production focuses] on…game day wear,” Takeno said. The elective focuses on different areas of brand and production and would be a great opportunity for students to join.
Sophomore Kathryn Bennion shares her experience being a part of the elective and highlighting different roles in the course.
“I’m in charge of the social media aspect of it, so I work on game day posts with a few other of my classmates,” Bennion said. Many students in the elective work on different assignments that foster their personal interests.
The elective provides class time to work on technical skills students can use for a future career.
“If I ever wanted to go into marketing…I think it’s a good class [for] practice,” Bennion said.
Especially if you aim for a particular career in this path, the class helps develop and enhance expertise in the tech field.
Tech and production projects inspire creativity, which is a great way for the Woodbridge community to get involved in the field.
Senior Quincy Nguyen is currently working on projects that include stickers modeled after Disney Junior shows. He is excited to carry his passion for design into a future career.
“I love being a designer and this has pretty much been my passion for probably about as long as I live,” Nguyen said.
The difference in this creative elective in comparison to others is that students can showcase their work.
“As an aspiring designer, I just love how I get the chance to show off my creativity and share it to other people who I would hope would appreciate my work,” Nguyen said.
Many other high schools have started implementing design and production classes that enhance a student’s technological expertise.
According to Rancho Cucamonga High School, “[the class] allows high school students to learn and prepare for careers in graphic design and print technologies.”
As many future careers will be heavily influenced by technology, this course gives students the chance to develop in graphic design and production skills for potential career paths.
Students interested in future tech careers or who have a personal interest can join to learn and collaborate with fellow peers, getting to express their innovation in a creative environment.
This elective will be added to the list of semester electives and will be a valuable opportunity for students to explore what the class offers.
