The Woodbridge High School girls’ soccer team is gearing up for the 2024-2025 season, focused on improving their game and building team chemistry with a mix of experienced players and fresh faces.
The team has been working hard to prepare, with practices that include a combination of training, scrimmages, and conditioning. “We have done team training and scrimmages to improve our team chemistry,” said freshman Maryan Mohamud. “We’ve also done a lot of physical exercise and conditioning like weight room and running on the track to get in better shape.”
Sophomore Camryn Myers highlighted how the new varsity coach, Kevin Elson, is making a difference. “Coach Kevin’s approach differs from other coaches we have had because he is about positivity and effort,” Myers said. “Every game we play together, we just keep getting better.” She also spoke about the mindset Coach Elson is instilling in the team. “One mindset that I learned from Coach Kevin is to always be positive and to always be inclusive.”
The girls’ soccer team is made up of athletes with diverse backgrounds, motivations, and playing styles. This diversity has been one of their biggest strengths, helping the team grow both on and off the field. “I feel like the different reasons that we’re playing soccer, our goals with soccer, and our different play styles are what make the team so diverse and unique,” Mohamud said.
The team is determined to make progress, with a strong belief that even small victories count. “I can speak for everyone when I say our goal for the season is to win some games, even if it’s just one,” Mohamud said.
