Dogs are people, too

I know that in my very first column, I promised that my writing would not stray to me discussing my puggle, Turbo. However, I’m going to make an exception. My two dogs have always been a huge part of my life and there is so much to say about them.

Yes, I have two dogs, even though I tend to talk about Turbo more often because he was my first dog, and when I first saw him, he was wearing an adorable striped scarf and sitting in a red plaid bed in my living room on a cozy Christmas morning.

My other dog, Diesel, a black and tan dachshund, was a result of me embarrassing my parents as I became an emotional wreck, begging and pleading for a new puppy at the mall when I was 8, a slightly less heartfelt story to tell. Of course, this doesn’t make my second dog any less special.

It’s been a decade since we got our first dog, and since then, my two scruffy little pets have changed my and my family’s lives. I don’t think any of us expected to become so attached to two animals, and I find it amazing that so much love, and even support, can be shown by creatures not even capable of speaking.

Further, their unique personalities and friendship amaze me. They make me laugh on a daily basis with their silly behaviors, and I can feel their love when they warm my feet as they sleep at the foot of my bed at night.

I am lucky to have felt the type of love that a dog can give, and my life wouldn’t be the same without them.

Godspeed,

Noelle Roys
