Boys track sweeps Orange County championships
Boys track keeps its stellar reputation, winning the OC Championships on April 25. This is the first time in history the team won, as it was able to hold off powerhouse Dana Hills High.
“It was incredible. It is such an incredible team to be a part of. It is great being with these people and being able to do all of these things and practice with them, be with them and just hang out with them and really achieve these incredible, history-making things,” senior and co-captain Scott Patton said.
They were led by seniors Patton and Gabe Warner and juniors Alex Young, Daniel Sun, Jalen Gill and Nehemiah Nash.
“I thought we executed what we learned. I thought that the team really worked together to accomplish its goals, and we didn’t fall shy of that,” Young said.
The team swept all events on the track in the hurdles, long jump and triple jump to win the meet.
Along the way the 4 by 100 relay team set a record of 41.75 seconds and is ranked sixth in state. Warner also won sprinter of the meet, and Patton won the 100-meter race with a time of 10.86 seconds to retain his number one ranking in the county.
The team looks to continue its success with the rest of the season and in the postseason too.
“We have really high outlooks on it. It’s coming together right now; everything’s going really well for us all right now,” Patton said.
