Sporty Spirit
As I watch my friends head off to basketball and soccer practice, I realize that I have always been the person who rarely goes to games or matches. When I do, I am a spectator on the sidelines, who has never partaken in the high school athlete experience. It would be a lie to say that I don’t envy the friendships forged from being in a team, taking water breaks and playing late-night games together.
But don’t get me wrong: I am not ignoring the the times when getting up for practice itself is hard or the pain of losing a CIF game after months of arduous training. Being an athlete is a commitment, one that entails discipline and sacrifice in return for its rewards. High school is the time to grow both mentally and physically as a person- and sports definitely provide that opportunity. This is a shout-out to all you athletes, who break personal records with spirit.
