Q&A: The Befores and Afters of Spring Cleaning

Students share their experience before and after cleaning out their lockers

INTERVIEWEES: Senior Lucas Lamp and Sophomore Annika Lunow

BEFORE cleaning:

Annika Lunow’s locker before tidying
Lucas Lamp’s locker before tidying

How would you rate your messiness on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the most messy)?

Annika: 9.5

Lucas: 8

How did you get to this point?

Annika: I just gave up. I was tired of carrying everything, so I just throw everything in my locker now.

Lucas: I got lazy: I always thought I would clean up later but I never got the time to clean it.

What do you feel is the most disorganized part of your locker?

Annika: Probably all of it. I have a variety of things in it including my jackets and books.

Lucas: I think the papers, and also my Physics project from a month ago for Catapult Day.

What do you hope will come out of this experience?

Annika: [I hope to have] a clean and organized locker so I can get stuff done.

Lucas: I hope I will have easier access to my locker and notebooks.

AFTER cleaning:

Annika Lunow’s locker after tidying
Lucas Lamp’s locker after tidying

How long did it take you to tidy up?

Annika: 10 minutes.

Lucas: Five minutes.

How do you feel about your locker now?

Annika: I am happy because it is organized now, and this clear space gives me a clearer mind.

Lucas: I feel a lot better about it because I can get to my stuff more easily and faster, especially during snack time. I can now get my books in the transition period.

Is this what you expected?

Annika: I expected it to be messier because I had a lot in my locker, but we got rid of a lot.

Lucas: I expected it to turn out like this, but I also thought it was going to be a little worse. It turned out better than expected.

Do you plan on maintaining this?

Annika: I hope so, but I do not think I will because I am pretty messy.

Lucas: Yes, I plan on maintaining this the way it is now in this season of spring cleaning.
