Equestrian sports extend over a wide field of events, from dressage to polo to show jumping. Freshman Maddy Seebach has been participating in equestrian competitions since she was four, discovering the sport through her mother, who is now a horse trainer. “Horseback riding is a lot of hard work. It’s fun and it’s stressful. Horse shows do get a bit crazy. They’re never on time,” Seebach said. The sport has a wide variety of events. Seebach participates in one of the wider known ones, show jumping. “You go in an arena and jump a course of jumps,” Seebach said. “There are different levels of difficulty, based on the arena and how high the jumps are.” Through riding competitions and exchange programs, Seebach has met new people of diverse backgrounds. Seebach plans on continuing equestrian sports through high school and into college. “Overall, it’s a lot of hard work and really fun. It can get a bit stressful and crazy, but you meet new people and learn life skills,” Seebach said. Equestrian sports has given Seebach a world of new experiences, people and activities. The sport has developed her concentration, work habits and her ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
