On November 2, Woodbridge High School’s UNICEF club is going to hold a fundraiser by whipping up treats to fight global hunger by hosting a bake sale. The goal of the bake sale is to raise funds as well as raise awareness for children in need worldwide. The event will be at W Yale Loop.
UNICEF is a worldwide organization that supports children by providing essential services such as food, clean water, education, and healthcare. Even though we live in the 21st century, many communities around the world still face hunger because of poverty, conflict, and inequality, where up to 40 million people lack sufficient food.
The club advisor, Kristina Maki, gave the students an understanding of what UNICEF is and what the clause is for UNICEF. Maki stated, “UNICEF is a club that aims to try and end hunger, specifically for children in the United States and abroad. So, some of the stuff that our club does is try and think of ways that we can raise money to send to
the organization to try and combat the hunger that exists for kids in the world.”

Club president Julie Shih gave an overview of the main activities for the club and what the club maily do. Shih stated, “Um, we mainly do like community service, or like educational things, like I would sometimes have slides that are detailing stuff about, like, hunger crisis? Or whatever, and then we have. I think we host quite a few, like donation drives. We sometimes do like fundraisers, like a bake sale, and um. There’s also like making cards for hospitalized kids or some other ones that are more like online and easier and more accessible for others.”
UNICEF Club member Aaram Garoosi stated multiple reasons why he joined the UNICEF club. Garoosi stated, “I joined the UNICEF Club for a multitude of reasons. First off, it’s helping hang out the people in need. No one can say no to that. Second off. The volunteer hours were definitely calling to me it. It’s very important to me that I get my volunteer hours in early on, because in on top of helping other people, I gotta help out myself. And third. Overall, I guess everything I’ve heard about the club is pretty good, so it’s not like they’re gonna like stray from their values or anything like that,”
Come join UNICEF at the next meeting! You’ll get a chance to learn more about the causes we support, hear about upcoming volunteer opportunities, and see how even small actions can have a big impact. The upcoming bake sale proceeds will go directly toward supporting UNICEF’s mission to provide clean water, education, emergency relief, and more to children around the world.
